The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FoHSS) at Far Western University has grown steadily since its establishment, playing a key role in providing quality education and contributing to societal development.
The faculty began its academic journey in 2068 BS (2011 AD) with a vision to deliver comprehensive education in the humanities and social sciences. It initially offered undergraduate programs in Nepali, English, Economics, Geography, History, Mass Communication and Journalism, Political Science, Development Studies, Sociology, and Social Work.
In response to the evolving educational needs of society, the faculty introduced the B.A. LLB program in the academic year 2077-78 BS (2021 AD). This program was initially offered under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences but later became a part of the newly established Faculty of Law.
To meet the growing demand for advanced education, the faculty expanded its academic offerings by launching graduate programs in Development Studies, English, Economics, and Sociology. In addition, recognizing the importance of research and advanced scholarship, FoHSS introduced research degree programs, including MPhil leading to PhD in Nepali and English Literature and a PhD in English Literature, starting from Falgun 2077 BS (February 2021 AD).
The faculty has consistently revised and updated its curriculum to keep pace with changing societal needs and global educational trends. Most of the courses, which were initially launched nearly a decade ago, were revised and implemented from the academic session 2077/078 BS.
FoHSS is also focused on expanding its collaborative network. It aims to establish cultural centers by partnering with other universities and is actively pursuing collaborations with the provincial government of Sudurpaschim, neighboring municipalities, NGOs, INGOs, and the provincial governments to enhance academic and developmental initiatives.
Through its commitment to academic excellence, research, and community engagement, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences continues to contribute significantly to the intellectual growth and development of society.
